Still More Lost

After last weekend, you think I'd be Losted out. But there's still plenty to say, and plenty of time to say it.

Actually, I'm piggy-backing on another column: Ryan McGee's best and worst top ten Lost Episode, written before season 5.

First, the worst. I agree with him that even bad Lost is better than most other things on TV.

10. Expose
I wouldn't want every episode to be like this, but it's a stand-alone, and an interesting change of pace.

9. Born To Run
Kate's first flashback (like most of the first flashbacks) was great. There were diminishing returns as we went along, but this one is still pretty good. Though the upshot isn't, but that's only with hindsight.

8. ...and Found
Sun and Jin-centric episodes are generally good but not great. This isn't one of the better ones.

7. Homecoming
Not great Charlie, but it's not the worst. The action on the island isn't bad.

6. Collision
Ana Lucia was sort of a mistake. Still, we get the big reunion here. This list seems to be based solely on the flashback portion of the show.

5. Every Man For Himself
Sawyer flashbacks may have gotten repetitive, but the worst Sawyer episode was "The Long Con," where the flashback isn't much and the action on the island makes no sense.

4. Adrift
Michael was one of the weakest characters, and this flashback just repeated a point that was boring to begin with. Still, some nice action on the island, as always.

3. Eggtown
Definitely weak, even for a Kate episode.

2. Fire+Water
The episode that convinced me it was time for Charlie to go.

1. Stranger In A Strange Land
This and #2 are generally considered the weakest. I agree the flashback is bad. (Like Kate, Jack ran out of interesting past pretty quickly). Still, I liked all the stuff on Hyrda island.

And now, the best:

10. One Of Us.
I wrote about how much I like this episode. Yet, I'm not sure if it makes the top ten.

9. Through The Looking Glass
Definitely. In fact, rated too low.

8. Confirmed Dead
We get the nice guys from the freighter. Good, but not top ten. As good as an average episode in season 5.

7. The 23rd Psalm
Eko was a cool character, but he didn't really go the distance. I wouldn't put anything where he stars in the top ten.

6. Raised By Another
Decent episode, but not one of the better in season 1, and not even the best by Claire.

5. Orientation
Very satisfying hatch episode, and introduces the DI. Not sure if top ten.

4. The Shape Of Things To Come
A fine season 4 episode. I'd say top twenty, but maybe not top ten.

3. The Man Behind The Curtain
Yeah, top ten. A lot of answers, and some amazing new question. Many big moments.

2. Walkabout
This is the episode that made me a fan.

1. The Constant
A fan favorite. Interesting, because it's almost a stand-alone, but packs more emotional wallop than almost anything else they ever did. I might add that Desmond episodes always work.
