"The Pink Panther" instead of "A Shot In The Dark"? The first film has some enjoyable bits but its basically a rough draft.

There's debate over what is the best Pink Panther film (and whether the series is that great to begin with).

The first one is a jewel heist movie that introduces Clouseau as a supporting character. He essentially took over the film, though, and so they had a separate, non-Clouseau story, adapted it for Sellers, and let him run with it in Shot In The Dark. That's a better "Clouseau" film, which I suppose, if you think the series is all about Sellers, makes it the better one. (I consider neither classics.)

Then there are the 70s movies (I'm not including any Clouseau films without Sellers). Some consider them an unnecessary post script, other the purest Clouseau, without the ornate Blake Edwards 60s style getting in the way. In particular, the fourth film, The Pink Panther Strikes Again, really lets Sellers go wild.
