VermontGuy's Favorite Show?

I was recently watching Newhart and thinking what a sweet deal Tony Papenfuss and John Voldstad had. They played Darryl, of Larry, Darryl and Darryl. (It just occurred to me that their parents not only ran out of ideas for names at Darryl, but that that name almost has the same letter of Larry--guess even a second name was tough to come up with.)

Larry, Darryl and Darryl were brothers, but Larry did all the talking. So for 8 seasons, these two actors got to have great fun in a fine prime time show, and never even had to learn any lines.

I wonder, though, if they got paid less than William Sanderson--Larry. In fact, I wonder if SAG rates are less for featured performers who have no lines. (I don't suppose Harpo got paid less than Groucho.)

Didn't Monty Python have a skit on non-speaking actors-the BBC is going bankrupt so keeps many of its actors from collecting the higher rate (and when actors explain why they are not speaking, of course, the BBC heads moan because they have to pay that actor for speaking...) Somehow Puss in boots was involved too

I once wrote a radio commercial using these characters and told the client they could have three celebrities for the price of one. They didn't buy it.
