The Umpire Strikes Back

"Mr. Plinkett," the guy who did the 70-minute review of Phantom Menace, has turned his critical faculties in the direction of Attack Of The Clones, and come up with a 90-minute screed.

Sure, he's more than a little unfair, but he makes many excellent points and is quite amusing. As before, the "subplot" about his creepiness is an off-putting waste of time.

Here's part 1. Check out the rest on YouTube.

PS Even at 90 minutes, Plinkett still entirely ignores one of my least favorite things about Clones, and indeed, all the prequels. In the original films, there was a feeling that these characters were coming from all over to do something special (even if it turned out that some were more closely related than we thought). In Empire we were introduced to an audience favorite, Boba Fett. He had no backstory--we weren't even sure what he looked like. He was just there, oozing coolness. He came from nowhere, but that didn't matter--he was the galaxy's greatest bounty hunter, and he didn't need to have major connections, he was major all by himself.

In Clones, we discover that Boba and his line were always very important, thus making the overall story smaller and less interesting--everyone important was always mixing with everyone else who's important. Turns out to be a very small galaxy. There are only a few important people and they all know each other.
