End Piece

In case you missed it, Lost just had its finale. I don't have the time to post any analysis right now, but I'll get to it later this week. I quickly checked around the web and the finale seems to be splitting the audience. Perhaps that was inevitable. What surprises me is that a lot of people didn't seem to get it. Good or bad, I thought it was reasonably clear. Or did I get it wrong?

A little bit later, I'll probably do a post about the whole season. And eventually a post about the whole show.

(Also no time for Breaking Bad. I'll get to that, too.)

I tuned in for the last hour and a half to see what all the fuss was about.

Since my knowledge of Lost comes solely from LA Guy's posts, I wasn't able to get caught up in (and won't comment on ) the drama.

Two questions:
1. Was the background music always so cheesy or did they ramp it up for the finale ? Maybe I noticed it more because I wasn't into the story but it seemed overwhelming and kind of cheap.
2. Was the climactic scene on the cliff with the ladder down the rocks one of the homages George Lucas talked about? Seemed redolent of the final episode of The Fugitive with the one armed man on the water tower. (which was the only episode I ever saw of that series either)

Tuned in for the last hour and a half? A big mistake, though I'm sure the advertisers were happy. It must have seemed like gobbledygook. What do you think this is, Titanic?

It's funny you would call the music cheesy, since it's almost been universally hailed as one of the greatest and most unusual scores a TV show ever had. The guy who wrote it just won an Oscar, btw.

The cliff stuff is just another one of the many colorful fights the show has had, though this was the Big One, I guess, so I guess they went all out to make it dramatic.

I thought the cliff fight was terrific, as was the music for the whole episode. It wrapped up everything I thought needed wrapping up (I don't care deeply about e.g. outriggers). I didn't wind up watching the episode until the middle of the night, because Santana whooping CC was just as fun, and happening live. But it kept me fully engaged and I left satisfied.
