Hey Ricky

Ricky Nelson was born 70 years ago today. Like so many rock stars, he died in a plane crash (25 years ago). His mom and dad both came up through the music business, but were best known for their mild sitcom that ran forever, The Adventures Of Ozzie And Harriet.

Ricky became a regular on the show, playing himself. He was into rock and roll, and unlike most TV rockers, was surprisingly good at it.

The first song of his I remember hearing is "Poor Little Fool." It was his first #1 hit. Note the classic 50s chord progression C-Am-F-G7.

How can you mention Ricky Nelson without mentioning Rio Bravo?

I was concentrating on Ricky's music, which was great, not his less-than-scintillating acting career.
