SNL Movies

With MacGruber coming out this week, Boston.com did a an article/poll on the best and worst of SNL sketch-based movies

Interesting to note that, as of this writing, by far the biggest favorite (54%) is "The Blues Brothers." Its the oldest, was not really based on sketch (I think Belushi and Aykroyd just performed the songs straight during the show) and was widely derided as an ultra-expensive flop at the time. (Though I sort of liked it at the time and have liked it more over the years, of course now I like both kinds of music too)

On the other hand, the list of SNL movies is less than impressive except for "Wayne's World." [I would have thrown in Doug and Bob McKenzie's Strange Brew into the voting mix even though it was a different franchise]

How is that the The Wild & Crazy Guys didn't get a movie ?

Whether the Blues Brothers was a sketch or a song is a matter of interpretation.

It's surprising Wayne's World didn't do better considering it's the only bona fide movie hit on the list.

What's most surprising is realizing there were a bunch of major hits from Saturday Night Live comedians but almost none of them were adaptations of sketches.
