Sweet, Nice Lady Surprisingly Not Lousy
Just watched Betty White host SNL. (She was chosen in a Facebook petition). Pretty good. Better than most, in fact. She showed 'em what an old pro can do. Of course, much of the humor was just putting dirty talk into her 88-year-old mouth.
It was also a Mother's Day show featuring a bunch of former female stars--Rachel Dratch, Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph, Molly Shannon, Ana Gasteyer and Tina Fey--who revived old bits and tried out new ones. They added a lot to the show, but didn't overshadow Betty.
Goes to show, you never know who'll work out.

Only complaint is that she could have re-enlivened "What Up With That?" instead of doing the dancing talk show skit.
I think a lot of humor comes from the lilt in her voice if I had to pick one trait.
I was hoping for another "What Up With That?" Perhaps the show thinks that bit has run its course, though it sure keeps letting Kenan do that Scared Straight bit.
I didn't really watch The Golden Girls, but I've liked Betty White since her days with Mary Tyler Moore. She certainly knows how to get a laugh in front of an audience. She also was better than most hosts and not seeming to be reading cue cards.
Due to eyesight problems, she actually memorized everything rather than reading cue cards. That's when a disability becomes an asset.
