Generally Speaking

Buster Keaton's The General was on Turner Classic Movies recently. I pressed the info button and read "...this film has been called 'the last great comedy of the silent screen.'" Perhaps it has, but that's an odd way to describe it. Especially since Buster Keaton himself created at least two more great silent comedies (Steamboat Bill, Jr. and The Cameraman) before the silent era was over.

I thought the silent era ended with Mel Brooks' "Silent Movie."

Just kidding, but we recently took this out of the library. I had forgotten that it was fairly entertaining, with great physical comedians like Sid Ceaser still in their prime.

(We also took out History of the World Part I - not so entertaining.)

Some would say that was Sid Caesar about twenty years past his prime.
