Double Feature

Couple of big movie deaths.  So many of the Nouvell Vague are gone--Truffaut, Malle, Rohmer, and now Claude Chabrol.  While he started out as experimental, he became the most conventional of the class of '59.  At least it led to a lot of entertaining films.  He seems the most influenced by Hitchcock, and seemed to enjoy the thriller as a genre.  He also worked regularly until the end.  His films came out like clockwork, almost every year.  At least in France--they didn't all make it to our shores.

In the 1950s, Kevin McCarthy seemed on the verge of stardom.  A young, goodlooking guy who could carry a drama, maybe he'd be the next Brando. He never came close, but he was a respectable actor who did a ton of films and TV, as well as appearing regularly on Broadway.  I suppose his most memorable role was as the lead in the original Invasion Of The Body Snatchers, that great cry of paranoia from the 50s.

I prefer his role as the villain in Weird Al Yankovich's "UHF". After Boby Snatchers, he seemed to get a lot of villain parts (on TV and in movies).
