More 2011 Predictions

At LAGuy’s request, here’s my two cents worth:
I’ll start with the economy because what happens in the economy will drive what happens in politics.
American Economy:
As far as the overall economy is concerned, I have two words for you: Double Dip.
Housing prices will continue to fall, gas and food prices will continue to rise.
Unemployment will remain stubbornly above 9%
The Dow will drop but not crater. Call it somewhere between 10,000 and 11,000
American Politics:
In part because of the above, Obama will compromise any and all values he possesses (along with a few of yours and mine) – short of ObamaCare – in order to ensure his re-election. When he can't cajole or coerce the Republicans to pass what he wants, Obama will attempt to bypass congress by using regulatory agencies (EPA, CIS). He will then publicly demonize the people he's been trying to schmooze, thus remaining the most Bi-Polar President in history.
The Debt Ceiling will be folded, spindled and mutilated but not broken.
No new major legislation will pass. The House will pepper the Senate and the President with small, focused bills, all of which will be posted online ahead of time for people to discuss. Harry Reid will retaliate by sneaking into the House chambers after hours and using the bills to wallpaper the new Speaker's bathroom.
No new Supremes, no major terrorist attack and the Tea Party will continue to work the grass roots, preparing for another major push in 2012.
Sarah Palin will look at the incredibly dismal field of Republican Presidential candidates and say “Hell, yes!” This will kick off the most entertaining Presidential Election EVAH!
International Politics:
The Euro is toast and I’m with Denver Guy. I think we’ll see one or more members bolt this year.
There will be a terrorist attack in Europe, but it will probably come in the form of riots and will be blamed on unemployed immigrants.
Not only will there be no progress in Israeli/Palestinian Peace talks, but by mid-summer, Hezbollah will be lobbing rockets into Israel from Lebanon, inciting another war.
Sports:
The Patriots will win the Super Bowl.
Pics of Brett Favre’s fuzzy package will show up all over the internet.
Tiger Woods will win the Masters
Popular Culture:
Movies will continue to lose viewers but 3D ticket prices will keep the Box Office from dropping like a stone.
Cars 2 will be the first Pixar movie to receive generally negative or so-so reviews.
Green Lantern and Pirates: On Stranger Tides will both suck.
Harry Potter #7, part II will be the Box Office champion of the year.
Aaron Sorkin will devote some of his 30 seconds on Oscar night to take another shot at Sarah Palin

Pretty good predictions. I'd like to append one of them:

"Green Lantern and Pirates: On Stranger Tides will both suck"...

...grossing combined worldwide over $1 Billion.

Which leads to some early predictions for 2012:

- "GREEN LANTERN II: ELECTRIC BOOGALOO"

- "PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN V: YO HO HO AND A BOTTLE OF DUMB"

Great predictions. But hasn't the Favre prediction already happened?

I'm hoping you are wrong about Pirates IV. I was very disappointed in Pirates III, and I would think the folks at Disney would realize what went wrong with that film (not enough Capt. Jack Sparrow and Capt. Barbarosa - way too much Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightly).

You would think they could fix that with the advance warning. And adding Blackbeard could be great (*crosses fingers*).

TOTALLY bogus predictions, man. Sorkin will take at least two minutes.

Double dip? You mean, not only will unemployment stay high, but the economy will stop growing?

Anon - Sad, but true, those two films will probably make money.

DG - If Favre's package has been making the rounds, I haven't seen it (not that I'm, um, looking for it, mind you) And yes, I'd love Pirates IV to be good, but being better than III is a no-brainer.

Anon 2 - Normally, the Academy has a pretty quick hook on thank you speeches, but if he's ragging on Palin, they'll let him go as long as he wants.

LAGuy - Yes, I mean...wait a minute. The economy's growing? Are they using the same measurement they use to determine inflation only without counting oil and food? Because if they are...

Seriously, I don't know if we'll actually drop into a second recession but for most of us, it's gonna feel like it.
