Who Needs Words?

Happy birthday, Burt Bacharach.  I don't know if any other 20th century songwriter created such a distinct style.

This song is named after his daughter, who had Asperger's syndrome. (She committed suicide a few years ago.) The tune was used as the theme to the ABC Movie Of The Week.

"Bond Street" was an instrumental from Casino Royale (I prefer the movie's version) that was there entitled "Home James, Don't Spare The Horses." It was used as a TV show theme in Britain, but is best known in America, I'd guess, as the background music for Stewie's "sexy party" on Family Guy.

The original soundtrack to Casino Royale, in fact, used to be considered the best album to test stereo separation, and when it went out of print, was highly prized. The hit song from the movie, more than the theme, was Dusty Springfield's version of "The Look Of Love." It also did pretty well for Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66. Originally composed as an instrumental, Bacharach partner Hal David added the lyrics, but it still works on its own.
