TR

Happy birthday, Tommy Roe.

He had a bunch of hits in the 1960s, starting with the #1 "Sheila" in 1962, which sounded to a lot of people like a rip-off of Buddy Holly's "Peggy Sue." He seemed to lose his footing when the Beatles hit big in '64, but by '66 he was back with two hits, "Sweet Pea" and "Hooray For Hazel."

Perhaps he seemed too bubblegum by the time acid rock hit, but he had another comeback in 1969 with the #1 song, his most mind-bending yet, "Dizzy." He had another top ten hit with "Jam Up And Jelly Tight" in 1970, but he'll forever be remembered as one of those artists in the 60s who may never have been top tier but made listening to the radio fun.
