Happy Morgan

Happy birthday, Lee Morgan.  He recorded one of the most enjoyable jazz albums ever, The Sidewinder, when he was in his mid-20s.  Good thing too, since he was shot to death in his 30s by his common-law wife.

I always thought the title tune, with its long, sinuous lines, was named after the snake.  But then I read that Morgan was referring to Westerns, where the good guy calls the bad guy a dirty sidewinder.
