According to some, it's Bing Crosby's birthday. Others say it's tomorrow, so I guess the delivery came late at night.
It's hard to exaggerate how big a star he was in the first half of the 20th century. He sold more records than anyone else by far. In the pre-rock era he charted 317 songs in Billboard and had 36 #1 hits. (Some would say more--there were different methodologies in those days.) His recording of "White Christmas" was the bestselling record of all. He was also a top ten box office attraction for 15 separate years, and in the mid-40s was the #1 movie star for five straight years. Oh yeah, he was also considered hip.

Don't forget- part-owner of the Pittsburgh Pirates. In my Pittsburgh upbringing, he could never be mentioned or appear on TV without someone in my family bringing that up.
Bing actually recorded the memorable Game 7 of the 1960 series with Mazeroski's home run (using I think a movie camera aimed at a television) so he could watch it later. It is the only complete video of that was found I think sometime in 2009 or 2010 and was publicly aired around the 50th anniversary of the series.
