I just reread Catcher in the Rye and it doesn't make me want to kill anyone. Just say something snarky about phonies.
Furthermore, Lennon mainly was not a phony- insufferable prick at times and bigger than God, but not a phony
The irony in the book that a lot of readers miss is that Holden is the biggest phony of all.
