First principles

People think voting is the fundamental, ab initio right, but it's habeas corpus.

The Blogfather dismisses legal rights for chimps because he doubts they'll have legal responsibilities. I'm with him. I'm also willing to add voting to the list--but of course my Democrat friends will eventually insist on that, probably by 2016.

(Isn't this one of Cass's pet projects, too? Property rights are a government-policy fiction, but animal rights are (doubtless) a constitutional, nay divine mandate, right down to the cellular level, excluding fetuses.)
