O To A
Claude Monet was born on November 14, 1840. He was the founder of French impressionist painting. In fact, the term "impressionism" comes from his painting "Impression, soleil levant" (Impression, Sunrise).
Just one problem. There's a guy named Manet--Edouard Manet to be precise--who was a contemporary and also a famous French impressionist. I'm sorry, but you shouldn't have two guys in the same movement with such similar names. One of them should have been kicked out.
So to help out, let's look at a few of their most famous painting, so you'll always know which is which. First, some Monet.
Bain A La Grenouillere (1869):
You know what? The rest of the titles will be in English. Here's Impression, Sunrise, (1872):
One of many in the Water Lily series (1896 to 1926):
And now for some Manet. Luncheon On The Grass (1868)
Boating (1874):
A Bar At The Folies-Bergere (1882):
Hope that clears things up.
