Oh Dana

Bob Denver just died. I may do a tribute soon, but I was surprised at how shoddy the remembrance was at Slate. They do get paid there, don't they?

TV critic Dana Stevens claims the Dobie Gillis series lasted from 1959 to 1960. This is such an obvious error, it must be a typo--the show ran from '59 to '63. (It's true Tuesday Weld and Warren Beatty were only there the first year, but Denver's Maynard G. Krebs was around till the bitter end, man.)

Less excusable, Stevens claims Denver got in trouble for possession of pot "which he claimed at first to have obtained from his friend and former Gilligan co-star Dawn Wells, who played the vampy movie star Ginger." EVERYONE knows that Dawn Wells played country girl Mary Ann, while Tina Louise was Ginger.

UPDATE: They've fixed the horrendous Mary Ann error without indicating anything was ever amiss, but the Dobie Gillis mistake is still there for all to see.
