Rogers Brown watch

A moment ago, as I sat down to write this, Tradesports had Williams at 23.9 and Luttig at 20.0. Now trading is "paused" across the board (perhaps they do this every day?), Luttig is at 0.3 and Williams is at 3.1. Miers is suddenly up after being under 3.0, while everyone else, mostly, is under 2.0.

Soon, grasshopper, the logic of the market will be clear to you.

UPDATE: Lots of web chatter that it's Miers. This doesn't feel good. She's reportedly 59 years old, which makes her too old -- a decade on the court, instead of two or three. The key thing is, does she believe in the Commerce Clause? That is, that it's a limit, not a license? If not, why bother? If so, why gamble on giving her such a short time on the court? I'm prepared to believe that she's a triple-C -- a Commerce Clause Conservative -- but instead of a teachable moment, fighting openly for such a person, we're going to be stuck with a month of temporizing. How much better it would have been to watch Democrats froth at the mouth against JRB, win or lose. If he had to nominate Miers then, so be it. No question, Bush has lost points here. What's next? An apology for the war?

FINAL NUMBERS: Miers 14.5. Alito & Williams 3.1, all others under 2.0.
