Stealth Candidate = Lack of Courage
Suppose that Harriet Miers turns out to be Scalia and Thomas in size six pumps. It does not fully redeem Bush. He chose a stealth candidate when he did not have to. He chose NOT to have a discussion (nor a battle) of ideas. Bush is looking a lot like his father right now. Wimpy, crony pickin', 'no new taxes' lip-synching coward. C'mon man take up the fight. If you really believe in a strict constructionist philosophy, then pick someone who isn't afraid to defend it.

Now would be an excellent time for blogs to test their power. If they can get together and make it clear how much they disapprove of Miers--from the right--maybe they can get the message out to Senate Republicans. If just a few on the Judicial Committee defect, they can mix with the Democrats. (Though it does seem Bush picked someone who was pre-approved by some big names.)
I say don't give up. Better to stop a potential Souter now than wait till it's too late. Bush has 55 Republicans now--does he expect to have a better atmosphere later, especially if he's lucky enough to replace an actual liberal?
He is not interested in the discussion and my guess is that neither is anyone else outside of the Federalist Society blogosphere fringe.
