Manhattan media rides . . . still
A priceless gem in this story. Reporter Daniel Klaidman opines, unattributed, that it is "widely perceived" that John Ashcroft was a Bush toady ("would do anything" the White House says about the war on terror) and therefore it is "surprising" that a Justice Department official challlenged the WH and Ashcroft backed him up. Of course the Manhattan media think this is impeachment stuff, but it's a total non-story: "Government officials do jobs." (Come to think of it, I guess that is a story.)
