If You Insist

Timothy Noah's short piece in Slate on the end of three decades of Republican dominance is the worst sort of thumbsucker. It's flaws are too many to list, but in general, most of his statements about the past are wrong--who's been dominant, what the Republicans actually do, what the country understood about them--and even accepting his assumptions, his conclusions are unwarranted.

On the other hand, if Noah wants to give Republicans credit for the last 30 years, which have seen great, perhaps unprecedented growth, I suppose they should just shut up and take a bow.

You call that short? I call it interminable.
