Big Day

Today is the bicentennial of both Charles Darwin and Abraham Lincoln. Try not to party too hard.

Just a dumb comment on celebrity- Lincoln is far more recognizable and well-known (at least in this country), but "Darwinian" is a far more used word than any Lincoln adjective (Lincolnesque? Lincolnian? Lincoln-y?) probably because it refers to an idea rather than personal attributes and frankly. "Lincoln" as a set of sounds doesn't lend itself to additional word forms.

I don't think I would recognize a picture of Charles Darwin- in fact I seem to remember some sort of controversy when pictures of Chas. Darwin and Chas. Dickens were mislabeled with each others name (though this might have occurred in my eigth grade history class, I'm a little fuzzy on this )

Darwin's big bushy beard makes him harder to identify.
