From Exodus To Flood

For years, California was the fastest growing state in the nation. Lately, though, more citizens are moving out than in. But you ain't seen nothin' yet.

The governor and the legislature have worked up a plan to help pay for the budget. They expect to vote on it today. Among the highlights:

Vehicle license fees will almost double.

The sales tax will rise yet again, going up a cent to 9.75%.

The gas tax will go up 12 cents a gallon.

There'll be an income tax surcharge of 2.5% to 5%.

My guess? This will increase the number leaving the state, and the government will receive even less. But no matter what happens, life will be less pleasant in the Golden State.

Didn't we recall Gray Davis for less than this?
