Disorientation

Having watched the available Dharma Inititive orientation films and I've noticed a few things.

First, there are six such films, and each tell you which one it is at the beginning. Why? Shouldn't the orientees just learn about their station and not necessarily be aware of the others?

Second, they're all hosted by Pierre Chang, who always uses a pseudonym, with a last name that has something to do with a candle.

Third, they're copyrighted in 1980. So we know, if nothing else, the stations, including the unbuilt Swan in 1977, will be up and running three years from where the Losties are now. We also know the "incident" will occur between those years, and they'll have to create a new protocol at the Swan. (My guess is the incident will happen in 1977, be caused by Faraday and lead us into Lost's final season.)

Fourth, why are these things copyrighted? Are they worried someone else will make money showing them?

When you wrote "There are six such films," I thought that the ABC folks must have released them as bonus videos. But I guess you meant there are three films available (the Swan, the Pearl, and the Orchid), and since each of them is numbered "N of 6" there must be six total?

I can easily imagine there are more than six. Why tell the dronies how many there really are?

On second thought... Hmm, there are a lot more films than that. This list at Lostpedia gives them all. Some are part of the Lost video games and may not be canon. And others are films, but not "orientation" films (like the brainwashing film).

If you have the DVD set for season three, it's worthwhile to watch the bonus feature that includes the "making of" the Orchid film. It would take someone more clever than me to have figured out the time travel element from it, before seeing the season four finale a year later....
