It Must Be Jelly

This website compares New Zealand vocabulary to American. A lot of it is similar to what you'd hear in England or Australia.

Certain differences can always cause trouble, like "biscuit" for cookie. Others, like "candy floss" for cotton candy, are easy enough to deal with. But some just seem to be asking for trouble. They call hot dogs "American hot dogs." So what's a "hot dog" to them? A corn dog. Are corn dogs so popular over there that it can be used as the default term?

Then there's their word for jello--"jelly." This sounds like they're just messing with us. So what do they call jelly? Believe it or not, "jam." The list doesn't say what they call jam, but my guess is "jam," since the distinction between jam and jelly is weak at best for most people,

Anyway, if you're ever in Auckland and are offered jelly for dessert, there's always room.
