Really Big Show
After the Big Scene in last week's Mad Men, this week featured the Big Moment we knew was coming--Kennedy's assassination. As America searched its soul, so did all the characters. With one episode left, all the leads--Don, Betty, Roger, Joan, Pete, Peggy--are going through big changes. (It's odd to watch Pete's wife now that I also see her each week playing a very different character on NBC's Community.)
Yet, this season seems oddly shapped. While the first two seasons seemed to build, each leading to a climax of sorts, many of the liveliest moments this year seemed to come in the middle, while the last few episodes have been quieter and darker.
Another problem is we've seen so many affairs in the past, and Don and Betty'a latest are less interesting than usual. Also, am I imagining this, or has there been more domestic stuff and less office intrigue?
Anyway, one more episode to go. Maybe they'll go out big. Will Don and Betty separate? Will Pete and Peggy bolt? And what about Conrad Hilton?
