Taking A Stand
The new Avatar trailer confuses me. Are these creatures fighting the humans? And if so, are we supposed to root for them?
The Ewoks (meant to evoke Vietnam--good luck, Lucas) were indigenous lifeforms living "naturally" who took on what amounted to humans, but that was the hated Empire and all its evil technology. If this Marine in Avatar turns on his own, wouldn't that be different?
Or have I completely misunderstood what's happening?

My reaction to the commercial was "wow, that looks cool, but which ones are the good guys?" Actually made me more interested in seeing it, but I'm different that way...
There's no way the cute aliens, on their own planet, living naturally, are the bad guys. Looks like a sci-fi remake of Dances With Wolves.
Having seen the longer trailer yesterday before The Vampire's Assistant (putrid), you've nailed it in one. I had hopes that maybe it would be a Dances With Wolves/Starship Troopers mash-up, where the moralities are kept ambiguous for a while. Yeah right. I guess they could have made this one slightly more transparent by naming the human commander Donald Rumsfeld, but only slightly.
