BE And BD

Boardwalk Empire is set in 1920, when Prohibition first takes effect.  This must be tough on the writers, since just about all slang they know originated after then, so it's hard to have the characters talk without betraying the era.

I was thinking about this when, in a recent latest episode, a police official told an undering he's not "Bulldog Drummond."  Now I know Drummond was a popular character in the 20s, but was he popular in 1920?

I checked, and Drummond, who's a WWI vet, made his first apperance in a 1920 novel.  So all I can say is that is one hip police chief, keeping up with the latest.  Bet he'll soon be upping his references to that hot new writer F. Scott Fitzgerald and that wild tunesmith Gershwin.
