Back To The Alternate Future

Back To The Future was a surprise blockbuster 25 years ago.  Another surprise is Eric Stoltz was originally cast as Marty McFly.  Director Bob Zemeckis was unhappy with his work and replaced him with Michael J. Fox.  Good idea.

A 25th anniversary Blu-Ray box set of the BTTF films is coming out soon, and for the first time we get to see footage of Stoltz as McFly.  It's freaking me out.

I hope they include some footage of Stolz's work, rather than just the talking heads.

I have the box set of the Back to the Future trilogy, and on one of the extras, I recall a discussion of how hard it was to accomodate Michael J. Fox's schedule, as he was still filming Family Ties episodes, I think. He basically had to work around the clock.

Of course, it was worth it. He went from start to superstar.

He also did a great job. Without his performance, I don't think the film works.
