Suckers

For a while, it looked like Joe Manchin, popular governor of West Virginia, might lose his bid to take over Robert Byrd's vacated seat in the Senate.  So he changed his campaign and basically ran as a Republican who just happened to be called a Democrat.

Now, even before the rest of the newly-elected Senate takes office in 2011, he's become a rubber stamp for the Dems.  Hey, it's his party, what did you expect, West Virginians?

Above all, he promised not to raise taxes on anyone--said that upping taxes is a bad idea during tough times--but now says that was back in the old days when the tax hike proposal was for those making a quarter million.  Now that there's a proposal to tax people who make a million--something that was apparently beyond his imagination during the campaign--he's changed his mind.  As he puts it, "I don't think it's going to kill you to pay a little more."
