"You couldn’t have a starker contrast between the multiple layers of checks and balances [at ‘60 Minutes’] and a guy sitting in his living room in his pajamas writing.”
On the other hand, even when I was young it seemed unjust that when the hit Fifties-nostalgia musical Grease hired Fifties rock star Franki Valli to sing the title track for the movie, it insisted that it be a disco song. I guess in 1978, all music had to be disco?
I remember the first time I heard The Spinners' "Working My Way Back To You" on the radio. I wasn't listening closely, and all the sudden they were singing a different song. I wondered if I'd blacked out for a second. It took a few times before I figured out it was a medley.
There are a lot of people from Ireland who, when they heard The Spinners' version, said "I thought that was a Boyzone song."
The movie version of Grease was the biggest hit musical up to that point (not taking inflation into account). But I remember thinking it was ridiculous to start the film with a modern-sounding song. Set the wrong mood. Though that's how the business works. The song, incredibly, went to #1. It was not the one that I want (another song written for the movie version that went to #1, but written more for the period).
By the way, though Frankie Valli recorded music in the 50s, he and The Four Seasons didn't have any hits until the 60s. But since their earliest hits came before the Beatles broke in America, you might as well consider them a fifties band.

I never knew that the "Working My Way Back To You" that I grew up with wasn't the original!
I like the disco version with the bass vocal bits better. But this one is good too.
