Inside Info

At a New Year's party I met a Ron Paul fan. I told him I thought Paul had strong, even fanatical supporters, but that his support also had a clear ceiling.

He assured me that the national media has been ignoring the good doctor, and that everyone is going to be surprised at how well Paul does.

He may be right, but I wish I'd asked him if he was a betting man.

He's a mini-Huckabee in terms of effect- he will draw off a committed but ideologically separate group (3-6%)from the main body leaving the "center" of the party (at least after Iowa) to pick - probably either McCain or Giuliani (Romney could have benefited too but his attempt to veer right seems to have backfired- the right seems to have picked Huckabee and Romney has acquired a flipflopper reputation for his trouble)
