Hear Hear

My refrigerator sometimes hums, and then it stops. But I don't notice the hum until just after it turns off. But I feel like I was listening to it before the hum turned off.

Either 1) it gets louder before the hum stops, so I notice or 2) this is some weird psychological effect that has your brain move back in time a few seconds after the event occurs.
