The Right To Be On TV
There's been a foofaraw over Oprah Winfrey's refusal to have Sarah Palin on her show. My main attitude is who cares, it's her business.
In the past, Oprah had a studied impartiality when it came to politics. I think this was good business for someone with a large and politically diverse audience. And that's why, of late, her very public support of Obama has made people suspicious of her motives.
Still, over the last year she hasn't hosted any of the candidates, so it's perfectly consistent not to book Palin (at least until after the election, after which Oprah says she'll welcome her with open arms). No one denies a Palin appearance would get huge, perhaps historic ratings, but as long as Oprah has a ban on all candidates, why should people feel it's unfair that Sarah and Oprah don't get together? It's not like there's a right to appear on TV.
