Tell Us How You Really Feel

Mike Murphy and Peggy Noonan get caught talking out of school:

"It's over," said Noonan, and then responded to a question of whether Palin is the most qualified Republican woman McCain could have chosen.

"The most qualified? No. I think they went for this — excuse me — political bullsh** about narratives," she said. "Every time Republicans do that ... because that's not where they live and it's not what they're good at and they blow it."

Plus, it's cynical. And gimmicky.

As Jesse Jackson and Don Fowler recently learned, we live in a world of open mics, folks. You would think a couple of seasoned journalists would know that. If either one of them had said this (or words to this effect) on camera, I'd at least respect them for having the guts to do so. As it is, this just reinforces my feeling that the real cynicism lies with the reporters themselves.

As much as I may dislike Keith Olbermann, I don't have to wonder if he really believes what he's saying.

Update: Noonan fleshes out what she said and why.

How ugly. She's accusing the Republicans of acting like Democrats.

Wow, that might be the clumsiest tap dance I've seen since my second grade recital.^ Did she really think her use of a barnyard expletive was what needed explaining? Followed by calling a hypothetical opposing critic a bitch? Wow.

^ No, I didn't really study tap.

This is why I pay no attention to the talking heads on TV. It's one thing to have no idea what you're talking about. It's another to say one thing in public (and expect to be believed or trusted) and another in private.

If I remember correctly, they used to call that "lying".
