Mr. Blue

McCain is giving up on Michigan. Clearly the sign of a campaign in trouble. Any candidate has to decide where to concentrate his resources, but the McCain plan of flipping a blue state or two was a good idea. Taking a state like Michigan, or Pennsylvania, or even Wisconsin, would give McCain the extra bit of insurance he needed against trouble he might have in the red swing states.

Now it would seem McCain is pinning his hopes on holding the Bush states. Not impossible, but there's no room for error. And to have any chance at that, he'll have to move the national polls at least a few points in his direction. Once again, not an insurmountable deed, but if he can do that, wouldn't that mean that Michigan might open up?
