Airing Their Differences
I've generally felt that geoengineering is not only the best solution to dealing with global climate change, but possibly the only solution. Yet there's a backlash growing. The European Parliament has passed a resolution opposing proposals for large scale geoengineering. ("The European Parliament's resolution was pushed through by Kriton Arsenis, a Greek Socialist MEP." That should have you brimming with confidence right there.)
So these large international bodies aren't bothered--in fact are thrilled--by massive one-world government energy regulation that may not solve our climate problems but could easily keep us in permanent recession. But if someone is doing stray scientific experiments they must be stopped. Or at least get permission from these large international bodies.
I understand that these people are scared by conscious attempts to change the weather (though they're not frightened by our collective loss of freedom due their measures). But who knows beforehand what will work and what won't. I'd like to see a lot of experimentation (even if it's not all regulated by an international body) and maybe we'll find what works more quickly.

I want them to build Gregory Benford's space sunshade. I just think it would be aweseome. Much more cool than our dorky space station, which will probably be outclassed by the Chinese station within a decade anyway.
