PB

Philip Bosco has died.  Perhaps not a household name, but one of the best character actors around.  Perhaps you remember him as Oren Trask in Working Girl?  The bus driver in Quick Change?  Lenny Savage in The Savages?  No?

Even if he wasn't always noticed, he appeared in quite a few movies, and even more TV shows, doing great supporting work.  But it was in the theatre where he probably did his best work.

He appeared in over 50 Broadway productions, and was equally adept at comedy (Lend Me A Tenor) and drama (The Heiress), classical (The Miser) and modern (Copenhagen).  He was nominated for six Tonys, winning one for Tenor.

He was likely America's foremost interpreter of the works of George Bernard Shaw.  Over the years he appeared in Saint Joan, Mrs. Warren's Profession, Man And Superman, Major Barbara, You Never Can Tell, The Devil's Disciple and, in his final Broadway appearance, Heartbreak House.

I didn't see all these productions, but I did see a few, and I can tell you I won't forget them.
