It's Perfectly Simple

Lost is confusing enough without misunderstanding the basics. Here's a review of the premiere from TV Squad where the regular critic seems to have forgotten quite a bit. Luckily, one of the talkbackers hadn't:

"However, right now, 'LA X' was easily one of the most confusing hours of 'Lost' yet"

Uh... I think you're overcomplicating things, it wasn't nearly as confusing as you made it out to be.

"Anther thing worth noting is that stuff we thought we knew about these characters and who was on Flight 815 changed as well. "

Yeah well, shows that the island had more to do with them than just the plane crash. Now that it's destroyed in the alt-timeline, things like the Numbers and other factors dont have the same effect, I'd gather.

"He seemed to recognize people or at least give them a double-take."

Eh... the only person I noticed him doing that for was Desmond, which was, as we know, because they HAD met before the plane.

"Are The Temple dwellers The Others too? Or are they another faction?"

Uh, confirmed IN the episode, that they were in fact Others. Not to mention, in Season Three, Richard was bringing a group of Others to the Temple, and then in Season Five, Richard told Smokey that there was another group of Others at the Temple too. So yeah, they're others.

"Why are the Confucius-y dude (Hiroyuki Sanada) and Lennon (John Hawkes) running the show?"

Totally not even worth asking, they were left in charge because someone had to be left in charge.

"How did Cindy, Zach, and Emma gain membership in this group?"

Cindy, Zach and Emma have been Others since Season Two. We've seen them again in Season Three with the Others too. The people at the temple were Others... Why is this a question? =/

"And why did dead Jacob choose Hurley as his living mouthpiece? "

Probably because Hurley is the only one who can communicate with dead people? =/

"But Richard now knew who it was and "Locke" said "it's good to see you out of those chains." What chains? "

I thought it was obvious he was referring to Richard being a slave on the Black Rock (which has been hinted at in past seasons)

"How come no one in The Temple knew that Jacob had been killed? "

You're kidding right? People at the STATUE didn't even know Jacob had been killed.

"Assuming The Temple has underground routes throughout the island, are the whispers just the voices of The Others carrying through?"

Wouldn't explain how the whispers were heard by Michael on the Kahana...

All in all, i liked the episode, and didn't find it nearly as confusing as you did... I think people over-complicate this show sometimes.

Just one quibble with the respondent. The Black Rock sailed in 1845. In 1845, as far as I know, all the slave trading on the planet dealt with African slaves. Richard is not black. So I don't see how he could have been a slave on the Black Rock. More likely he was in chains due to some later event -- maybe a crime, a mutiny, a slave revolt?
