Cold Reception

I feel very bad about Iceland's fiscal crisis, and there's no easy way out for them. But could anyone think a referendum where the public gets to vote on whether or not to pay a massive debt to foreigners had a chance of passing? I can just imagine if they gave California the opportunity to vote on whether or not we want to pay our debt--and we owe most of it to fellow Californians.
