Watching TV with the closed captioning on can clarify the occasional mumbled lined.  Except the CC typist doesn't necessarily hear any better than I do.

On a recent (for me) Freaks And Geeks involving baseball, one character (who mumbles a lot) talked about running the base paths.  For some reason, the CC read "base pads." Whoever typed that must have no knowledge of baseball.  Or was it a case of tossing a coin: "It sounded like pads, even if it doesn't make sense."

More recently on Kids In The Hall a trial judge was speaking.  The CC read "Let the prosecution call it's first witness."  Isn't the CC person (or an overseer?) trained to avoid this mistake.

Then, on Community, we got "No one likes a tattle tail." I agree.  They prefer tattletales, as in people who have tales to tell.
