Shut Up!

If I had to pick the best rock and roll singer of all, it'd be this man, who turns 78 today. (His early recordings were probably 78s.) Nothing can compare to his Specialty sides--every cut is magic--but here's an interesting, and very old, TV appearance.



He also appeared in a few movies, the most memorable being one where he sang the title number. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a good Jayne Mansfield video to go with "The Girl Can't Help It," so here's the next best thing. John Waters (obviously a fan--where do you think he got his mustache?) stole the song for a sequence in Pink Flamingos, where his Jayne Mansfield, Divine, struts through Baltimore.
